What I have learned...

We have almost survived 21 days!
What I have learned...
1. breastfeeding is like using 80 grit sandpaper on your chest over and over, reopening any wounds from the previous sanding session every 3 hours, 24 hours a day.
(I will let everyone know I am now to about 300 grit sandpaper and I am celebrating!)
2. babies have one powerful jaw, but once their jaws grip on and clench they zonk out and are snoozing every so peacefully for the next hour.
3. washcloths and squirt bottles do not wake up a baby who is newborn and jaundice.
4.right after feeding the hour long sanding session, baby is so good at waking up and alert!
5. babies have a powerful squirt on the back end and can reach your shirt and above!
6. baby boys have an amazing ability to squirt themselves in the eye.
7. If a mommy goes for a 1/2 block walk, she is paying for it for the next week with the 'overexertion'.
8. babies can be born healthy even after shooting through the birth canal, the cord wrapped twice around their little necks and when they put his sweet little cheesy body on you, he is purple!
9. being born from the above conditions we now get to look at really blood shot eyes for a month or two.
10. babies can be born with some serious wild hair and still be cuter then cute!
11. pumping with a machine pump vs. a hand pump really really speeds up the process. Nobody informed me of this for the past 7 years!
12. people that bring in food are angels! The food is always so so delicious!
13. Sisters are awesome and amazing.
14. cousins play well, most of the time, as long as they bring a certain Thomas Train with them.
15. It is literally OK to let the house go, for the most part.
16. Nathan is literally an awesome incredible husband and I could NOT have done the first week without him being home.
16. School is a good thing to have some quiet time.
17. mom's belly is still big, but now squishy!
18. the kids are very interested in mom's milk faucets
19. the chances of a hair do, none!
20. bedtime-a zoo!
21. i plan on never leaving the house!
22. One of the last things I have learned is that these little spirits are strong and so special and I am SO thankful he is here safe and sound and giving me more then 2 hours of sleep at a time.

little story
Chipped some enamel out of my tooth, I think from delivery as well as clamping down when it is time for a sand paper session with Brycen.
My appt. was at 8:30 am, powerful early for a newborn mom. I took Savannah, Corbin and Baby Brycen with me (tanner was at school). The following were the events that took place at the Dentist (who is my neighbor).
Brycen exploded his diaper 3x's in a row, 3 diff. diapers.
Corbin had to go to the bathroom
Fed Brycen sitting in the dentist chair while the Dentist worked on my tooth-he had to stand because the chair could not be tilted back because I was feeding Brycen. While the dentist was working, Corbin fell and was crying.
I asked the Dentist if I could finish feeding Brycen sitting in the chair, he said go ahead. Not two minutes laters, Corbin comes over, "I have to go poo-poo". So, post pone Brycen and off we go again to the bathroom.
Now, that was fun. What I learned, do not breastfeed or have kids. Your tooth will not chip.

Brycen at 1 week

Brycen at 2 weeks

Brycen at 3 weeks

Melissa, you sure have learned alot having these babies. Sorry about the sand paper!!! I am glad though that it is getting better, even if ever so slightly. Your dentist story sounds miserable, kind of like a fever nightmare where everything goes wrong continually. I absolutely love the pictures of Brycen! What a cutie. He definitly looks like he belongs to the Thomsen fam.

You are such a trooper - you are doing so well, despite the hardness of the lessons you are learning! We already miss you guys like crazy. Thanks for allowing us to come "help" :)

Ew. TMI. What to know what I've learned? Your tooth problems were caused more by Robin's Eggs than anything else. Busted. I LOVE that last picture of your little man. I want to steal him.

#6...their eye OR the doctors. Oh yeah.

When I had to pump after I had Brendan (when I had my surgery) the milk was pink from the blood from...well, you know where. For the first few weeks with all my kids I'd have to bear it until my milk let down and then it would be fine. Don't miss that one bit!

Hey, Melissa Fuller Thomsen! Maybe there were too many comments in your last update for you to notice mine, but check it out. I want to keep in contact with you. Your babe is soooooooooo cute. Way to go. Take care.

The pain and agony of breastfeeding are written there long and clear. I'm glad it's getting better, the dentist's office sounds like the most torturous thing of all time, and Brycen is getting cuter and cuter and cuter.

Extra cute babe, didnt like hearin about the sandpaper. You're a good egg, and comedy to whoever said your teeth probs were caused by Robin's Eggs.

WOW! You must have learned to type pretty well with one hand too. This was incredibly funny for a mom of 6 that understands! I wish I was there so you wouldn't have to take your kids with you to the dentist.
Miracle nipple cream: mupirocin mixed with hydrocortisine. Ask you doctor if it gets bad! Hang in there!
Your Amazing!

What a post Melissa!
Now that's the REAL life story of a mom with a newborn plus a few others. I feel for you, but I know the joys too. We're praying for you.
